Technology Community Recognizes OIT Leaders

Trophy iconWe all know how great our colleagues at SMU are, but it is always nice when others recognize the accomplishments and hard work of our community members. Recently, a couple of the Office of Information Technology’s leadership team have been honored as finalists, and even winners, in their fields.

Dallas ORBIE AwardsDr. Michael Hites was recently selected by DallasCIO as one of the 2023 Dallas ORBIE Awards Finalists in the Enterprise category. The Dallas ORBIE Awards honors chief information officers who have demonstrated excellence in technology leadership. The ORBIE® has been presented to every CIO of the Year® winner since the inception of the Awards in 1998. Dr. Hites is being recognized by his peers as one of the best-of-the-best in North Texas technology leadership with this honor. EDSCOOP 50 AwardsOur CISO, George Finney, was also recently selected as a finalist in the 2022 EdScoop 50 Awards, which honors the best and brightest who make higher education more efficient and effective. Celebrating the outstanding achievements of the top leaders whose efforts make a positive impact on the university community. In July, members of the Higher Ed community nominated more than 200 leaders and projects for the awards. The list was then narrowed to the top 80 by the EdScoop team. EdScoop readers then cast over 200,000 votes to select the year’s winners. In November, it was announced that George Finney was awarded the University Technology Leader of the Year for his work to build a world-class security culture here at SMU by utilizing fun and informative security awareness campaigns, community-building activities, and mentoring.
