Transcription Coming to Microsoft Teams Meetings Recordings

Microsoft Teams logoStarting July 28, 2022, Microsoft Team users will be able to take advantage of transcription services for Microsoft Teams Meeting recordings. This will allow meeting organizers to display captions during the playback of meeting recordings.

To use the feature, the meeting organizer or another meeting participant, if allowed, simply needs to start the recording.Screenshot showing recording options By default, the transcription will be stored with the meeting recording, which enables Search, CC, and transcripts on the meeting recording.

Please be aware that people outside of SMU, such as federated and anonymous users, can’t start a recording, and guest users can’t start or stop the recording. Also, the transcription for recorded meetings is only supported for users who set their language to or speak English in Teams meetings.

If you have any questions about using this feature or Microsoft Teams in general, please contact the IT Help Desk or visit the Microsoft Teams service page at smu.edu/teams for more information.
