Canvas Corner:
September 2019 Edition

Canvas CornerEvery month in Canvas Corner, we discuss the new features and enhancements available in Canvas. This month, we cover new WalkMe guides, a new navigation look, feedback per answer in New Quizzes, and an update to context cards on Android.

New Quizzes in Canvas Courses

When creating a multiple-choice question, instructors can click the comment box next to each answer in the quiz question. Custom feedback can be entered directly in the Answer Feedback text field for each question.

If students are allowed to view their quiz results, students can view the feedback for each of their answers, if it has been added in the Answer Feedback section.

Enhanced Course Navigation Visual Feeback

A picture of Canvas' new course navigation lookCanvas course navigation has been improved with visual feedback. When a user accesses a supported menu, all inactive links are displayed in the account’s primary color. The active link is displayed in black and includes a vertical line. The hover state for a link includes an underline by default (when high contrast mode is not already enabled). When selected, the link displays a focus state with a two-pixel border.

Default links that are not visible to students display the “hidden visibility icon.” Pages are not visible to a student in one of two cases: a page contains no content, or a page is hidden via the Navigation tab in Course Settings. Tooltip content clarifies the hidden state appropriately.

Improvements in Canvas Mobile (Android)

The student context card has been redesigned for improved accessibility and to support grade posting policies (mute assignment). The Grades section displays a student’s total grade before posting and after posting. This section will display for all courses.
