Student Fellowships Now Open for Public Works Dallas 2019

The production for 2019 is “As You Like It” and positions are open for students to get involved and paid! Check out the positions below.

 

Public Works Dallas is a groundbreaking community engagement and participatory theater project designed to deliberately blur the line between professional artists and Dallas community members, and launched in 2017 with the help of the Meadows School’s Ignite/Arts Dallas and Meadows Prize.

Start : June 2019 – August 2019

SUMMARY

The Dance Assistants serve in a key, leadership role on the choreography team under both the choreographer and their associate. Assistants are instrumental in the teaching of the movement to the entire ensemble.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

They will be expected to be at all of pre production/audition week (June 10-15),  rehearsals (starting July 9th) and attend additional choreography and music rehearsals to help build confidence, skill and repetition within the ensemble.

 

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Fluency in Spanish preferred, not required. This role is ideal for someone on the BFA/Dance track, has a performative background or has a proclivity towards teaching dance and movement.

 

Start : August 2019

SUMMARY

Assist with the load in, hanging & focus of theatrical lighting for the production.  Operate a follow spot during the production. Assist with striking all lighting equipment.  Reports to the Master Electrician.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend load in, all technical rehearsals, performances & strike.
  • Assisting the Master Electrician in all areas of lighting and electrics, including the hang, focus, running, & strike of the production.
  • Operation of a follow spot for technical rehearsals and performances
  • Other duties deemed necessary and appropriate to the position by the Master Electrician.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Master Electrican.

 

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic understanding of Theater/Tech practices
  • Knowledge of hanging and cabling theatrical lighting fixtures
  • Experience operating a follow spot

Start : April 2019 – August 2019

SUMMARY

The Community Ensemble Captain is a key, leadership role that is both on the Public Works Dallas team and in the show as a leader in the ensemble. The captains are responsible for knowing the ins and outs of the show, from choreography, to music to general staging.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

They will be expected to be at all rehearsals (starting July 9th) and attend additional choreography and music rehearsals to help build confidence, skill and repetition within the ensemble.

 

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Fluency in Spanish preferred, not required.  This role is ideal for someone on the BFA track, has a performative background or has a proclivity towards teaching.

 

DATES:

Please note, start date would be in April, so candidates could have enough time to visit our community workshops to acquaint themselves with community members before stepping into auditions and rehearsals.

If you are a graduating (spring 2019) senior, please note this job requires full attention during the summer rehearsal and production process July 9, 2019 – August 18, 2019.

SUMMARY

Support all rehearsals and performances. Assist with scheduling and show related paperwork. Assist with set up, maintaining and strike of rehearsal rooms day to day. Assist by running a backstage track and aiding in the logistics of the show. Reports to Stage Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Stage Manager and team with pre-production responsibilities.
  • Arrive early to every rehearsal to help set up rehearsal spaces for each day. Assist the stage management team with the rehearsal process. Must attend all rehearsals.
  • Assist both stage management and stage operations in performances by running a backstage track during tech and performances.
  • Assist the stage management team with strike immediately following the closing performance.
  • Responsible for many of the day-to-day duties of the production including but not limited to copying, paperwork creation, and running errands.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Stage Manager and/or Assistant Stage Managers.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Basic understanding of Theater/Tech practices
  • Experience in a rehearsal room and/or backstage
  • Microsoft Office & paperwork creation skills

Start : August 2019

SUMMARY

Assist with the load in & hanging of theatrical audio for the production.  Assist our sound staff with getting actors into microphones & tracking them throughout the production.   Reports to the Sound Supervisor.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend load in, all technical rehearsals, performances & strike.
  • Assisting the Sound Supervisor in the installation & strike of sound equipment.
  • Working sound staff and actors to prepare and maintain the mics.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Sound Supervisor.

 

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Basic understanding of Theater/Tech practices
  • Appropriate knowledge of wireless microphones & theatrical audio equipment preferred

Start : August 2019

SUMMARY

Assist backstage, helping to track props & move scenery.  Prep the stage before performances & return to neutral after performances.  Help ensure safe working practices backstage. Reports to the Stage Ops Manager.

       

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend all technical rehearsals & performances
  • Run a track during performances, including moving scenery and props
  • Preparing stage and backstage for rehearsals & performances
  • Assisting with maintenance & storage of props
  • Other duties as assigned by the Stage Ops Manager.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic understanding of Theater/Tech practices
  • Experience in a backstage setting
  • Work appropriate all black clothing

Start : Immediately – May 2019

SUMMARY

Work alongside and under the supervision of Public Works artists on-site, once-a-week in one of Public Works Dallas’s five partner locations. Each position paired with a Public Works Artist at a Community Partner Site. These positions report to the Manager of Public Works Dallas at Dallas Theater Center. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide logistical and creative support for lead artists during the workshop.Other duties as assigned by the Wardrobe Supervisor. Must be available once a week: morning, late afternoon or evening; availability varies between each position.

 

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Ideal for Theater and Dance majors with Musical Theater minors.

Start : August 2019

SUMMARY
Assist backstage & in the dressing rooms, helping cast members with costumes, makeup & hair.  Help maintain costumes through technical rehearsals and performances. Perform on the fly repairs as needed during performances.  Reports to the Wardrobe Supervisor.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Employee’s responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Attend all technical rehearsals, performances & strike
  • Run a track during performances that will include quick changes
  • Assist in costume changes and wardrobe duties as necessary.
  • Maintaining the dressing rooms, wardrobe and backstage areas in a clean, usable, and safe condition.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Wardrobe Supervisor.

 

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic understanding of Theater/Tech practices
  • Experience with costumes, wardrobe crews, makeup or wigs.
