“I was originally interested in working at the Hunt Institute to learn more about the ways that I can utilize my interdisciplinary background to contribute to social impact initiatives. I have loved being able to learn about the ways in which individuals can work together to create a more inclusive economy through a policy-focused lens, while also being able to contribute my computer science skills to showcase the work we have been doing.” – Kelsey Shipman

Kelsey is an Undergraduate Research Analyst at the Hunt Institute. She is a junior at Southern Methodist University majoring in Economics, Public Policy, and Foreign Language (Spanish and Arabic) while also minoring in Computer Science, Mathematics, Human Rights, History, and Public Policy and International Affairs through the Tower Scholars program. As an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Hunt Institute, Kelsey has contributed to the work of the Inclusive Economy Consortium project by engaging in research, attending interviews with corporate executives, and developing a website to showcase the project.

In addition to working at the Hunt Institute, Kelsey serves as a Student Senator on SMU’s Student Senate, the President of SMU’s Honors Research Association, and the Vice President of Investigations for Honor Council. Kelsey also has a fervent passion for travel, and she has pursued this passion by studying abroad in both Spain and Argentina. In Buenos Aires, she explored her interest in policy by working at a nonprofit public policy think tank, CIPPEC. In the future, Kelsey hopes to work as a Foreign Service Officer before pursuing a Ph.D. in either Economics or Public Policy.
