SMU Program for the Protection of Minors – Required State Training Update

Will you be working at a camp involving minors that is either hosted at an SMU facility or elsewhere by a SMU Faculty or Staff member?

If the answer is yes, you need to understand the requirements under Texas State Law and SMU Policy 9.31 (SMU Policies are located on Sharepoint – SMU credentials are required to log-in and access the policy) to complete a state mandated training program  on the warning signs of sexual abuse and child molestation.

Who must complete the training?

SMU is committed to maintaining an inviting, safe, and secure environment for those on campus or engaged in SMU-sponsored activities.  Therefore all employees are required to complete the training under the SMU Program for the Protection of Minors within their first 90 days of employment.

Training refresh schedule

Additionally any employee who hosts or works at a camp involving minors is required by Texas State Law (Senate Bill 1414) to to have completed the training within 24 months of the start of the first day of camp.

How can I determine when I last completed the training?

Employees may review their training summary in my.SMU to check the latest date of course completion.  Go to my.SMU>Learning and Development>Request Training Summary.  A report will be generated – click on the Status tab at the top of the page to view the course status, either enrolled, cancelled, completed.

If you need to submit proof of completion to the camp operator, you should take a screen shot of your training summary (make sure it captures your name and the date of course completion) and submit this to the person requesting it.  For state reporting purposes the vendor name is the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center.  The vendor code for DCAC is YCO8-0043.

Need to retrain?

If your most recent training completion does not fall within the 24 months prior to the start of the camp, you will need to retrain.  Send an email to DevelopU@smu.edu with your name and your SMU ID#.  We will enroll you in the training via the Lawroom system and you will be notified via email that the training is ready for you to access.  Your email will contain a link to Lawroom – enter your SMU credentials (ID and password) to log into the Lawroom system and access the training module.
