man with vegetablesIt’s time to spring clean your dinner routine and spice it up with fresh produce, herbs, and recipe suggestions that will please your palate and keep your waistline happy too.

And there’s lots to do at the Farmers Market besides stocking your pantry! Learn the difference between garish and garnish when it comes to setting a gorgeous table. Chef Tim Schaub will be on hand sharing tips for creating a beautiful, appetizing, and edible display of produce to delight your dinner guests. He has some fancy French term for it that we can’t pronounce, so be sure and ask him about it when you see him! He’ll also have recipes for some de-lish dishes featuring produce available at the market….look for some of them on the menu at RFoC in Umphrey Lee.

But wait, there’s more:

  • Claire Florsheim, SMU’s dietitian, will provide “sage” advice on nutrition
  • Get the latest on Dedman Center exercise programs–a key ingredient for wellness
  • Feed your soul with a tour of SMU’s Community Garden benefitting the North Texas Food Bank
  • Get all the “good dirt” on how to start your own container garden
  • Learn about sustainability at SMU and help the Red and Blue go as GREEN as the snow peas we’ll have at the market

carrotsAnd as if that weren’t enough to get you there, well yes, we’ll dangle some juicy carrots in front of you in the form of great giveaways, but you’ll have to look for more on that in an upcoming post. Yup, that’s what we call an appetizer.

SMUs Farmers Market will have a variety of fruits, veggies, and herbs to choose from, many of which are locally grown. Several organic varieties will also be available. Here is a just a sample of what we expect to have on hand during the market:

  • Blood Oranges
  • Raspberries
  • Snow Peas
  • Oregano
  • Organic Apples
  • Mint
  • Organic Grape Tomatoes
  • Starfruit
  • Tomatillos

Although we will have bags on hand for your purchases, we would appreciate you bringing your own reusable bags.
