Staff Association presents 2014 Variety Show Tuesday, Oct. 28

SMUSA Variety Show 2014The SMU Staff Association (SMUSA) presents its 2014 Staff Variety Show on Tuesday, Oct. 28, and seats are still available. Hosted by the award-winning Jenna Skyy, the luncheon and performances begin at noon in the Hughes-Trigg Student Center Ballroom.

The luncheon costs $9.99 per person and features turkey and Havarti sandwiches, house-made parmesan chips, fruit salad, lemon bars, iced tea and coffee. SMUSA is accepting luncheon RSVPs and online payment at this link.

A separate online RSVP link is available for attendees who prefer to pay with cash or check, or who plan to attend the show but not the luncheon.

SMUSA’s Fall 2013 Staff Day takes place Oct. 31

An 1880 timetable from the Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad Company (“Always On Time”) is an example of the finds that await in “Treasures of the DeGolyer Library: 100 Years of Collecting.” DeGolyer Director Russell Martin will lead a tour of the exhibition during SMU Staff Day, Oct. 31, 2013.

University staff members can learn more about everything from consumer rights in identity-theft cases to the new Residential Commons during SMU Staff Day Thursday, Oct. 31 in the Hughes-Trigg Student Center lower level.

The event will feature a 50-year perspective on the Kennedy assassination, as well as the annual Staff Talent Show presented by the SMU Staff Association.

The planned sessions also include a workshop on stress management, an overview of SMU library services for staff, and a tour of the new exhibition Treasures of the DeGolyer Library: 100 Years of Collecting led by DeGolyer Director Russell Martin.

Lunch will be available during the Talent Show for $9.99 per person at the door. You may attend the Talent Show without buying lunch; a $2 contribution at the door is suggested.

Staff Association offers taste of the State Fair in 2011 Talent Show

SMU Staff Association 2011 Talent Show logoThe 2011 Staff Talent Show goes up Thursday, Oct. 20, and the Staff Association still has seats available. The luncheon and performances take place 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Hughes-Trigg Student Center Ballroom.

For 2011, the Staff Association offers a State Fair menu including hot dogs, corn dogs, a build-your-own nacho bar, fried Oreos and funnel cakes. In addition, the Staff Association is hosting a Homemade Salsa Contest, open to all attendees whose entries meet the contest requirements. Five judges will award prizes based on taste, originality and presentation.

Performers and attendees who reserve lunch will be entered to win door prizes – including a free vacation day, four tickets to see the Dallas Stars (currently undefeated at home) play the Colorado Avalanche Nov. 4 in American Airlines Center, and a voucher good for two tickets and VIP access to a concert at Gexa Energy Pavilion in Fair Park during the 2012 season.
