Hot Links: Henderson holds new NCAA kickoff return record

SMU senior wide receiver Jesse HendersonSenior wide receiver Jesse Henderson (left) has set an NCAA record with 2,945 career kickoff return yards. Henderson broke the old record of 2,922 – set by Tulane’s Jeff Liggon from 1993-96 – with his performance during SMU’s game against Southern Mississippi Nov. 29, 2008. Read more.

First-year guard Paul McCoy was named Conference USA Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week after his performance over three games in the 2008 SMU Tip-Off Classic Nov. 21-23 in Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs went 2-1 for the week with a 79-60 win over Houston Baptist, a 56-51 victory against Alabama State and an 84-73 loss to Illinois State in the championship game of the invitational. The Mustang equestrian team is ranked #11 in the Intercollegiate Equestrian Coaches poll after pulling off the biggest win in program history: a 7-5 upset of #2 Georgia Nov. 23 at Park Lane Equestrian Center in Dallas. The season resumes next semester. Read more.

The cross country team finished 20th in the 2008 NCAA Division I Championships, which took place Nov. 24 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana. The team’s finish was its best in more than a decade. Read more.
