Stamm, associate professor of Christian Worship in Perkins School of Theology, wrote a column for The Dallas Morning News explaining how the idea of a “baseball service” started as a joke and evolved into a litany of praise for the gift of play. The piece was based on his paper “Pray Ball? Reflections on the Serious Liturgical Challenge of Giving Thanks for Baseball,” presented during summer 2010 at the Cooperstown Symposium on Baseball and American Culture.
