SMU offers free safe rides through Safety Escort by TapRide

TapRide screencapWorking late? The SMU Safety Escort program offers safe rides all over the main campus through the TapRide transportation service.

The service is free during regular operating hours, which are Monday-Sunday, 7 p.m.-3 a.m., when Fall and Spring classes are in session. The schedule is subject to change.

To use the service, download the TapRide app from the App Store or Google Play, install on your mobile device, and request a pick-up. You can also flag down a passing Safety Escort golf cart.

Service guidelines:

  • Safety Escort is only available during periods when classes are in session and is generally not in service during breaks and major holidays.
  • On busy nights, Safety Escort may need to stop taking requests 30 minutes before closing.
  • This is a safety service only and is not intended to be used as a convenience.
  • During severe weather conditions, Safety Escort service may be suspended. When conditions improve, the fleet will resume operations.
  • Safety Escort will respond as quickly as possible to people with urgent needs, but its fleet is limited to three golf carts.

TapRide is not an emergency service – please dial 911 if you are in immediate danger. If you are not in danger but need a law enforcement officer, please call the SMU Police department at 214-768-3333.
