Hot Links: Equestrian team heads for rematch with national champs

SMU varsity equestrian Claire WenholzThe equestrian team begins its 2009-10 season with road competitions against Auburn (Sept. 18) and Georgia (Sept. 20), the defending overall Varsity Equestrian National Champion. Sophomore Claire Wenholz (left) seeks to repeat her home victories of last season in equitation on the flat, where she defeated Auburn’s Katie Breedlove and earned MVP honors with a win over Georgia’s Katie Hagerty.

The Auburn meet is the first for new head coach Haley Schoolfield. Schoolfield comes to the University from TCU, where she was a part of the Horned Frogs’ national championship in 2008. Read more.

The volleyball team will play Texas State and William and Mary when it hosts the 2009 Doubletree Classic Sept. 18-19. The squad is on a four-game winning streak after defeating TCU for the inaugural Iron Spike and winning against Montana, Arizona State and North Dakota for the Montana Invitational title. Read more.
