National Security and Civil Liberties
The Maguire Undergraduate Scholars for Ethics (MUSE) is a student-led think tank made up of four to seven select students working together to investigate and understand ethics from an interdisciplinary standpoint in order to facilitate effective and informative discourse on our campus. With direction from the Maguire Center for Ethics and Public Responsibility, MUSE implements its mission to “provide moral reflection on contemporary issues and celebrate ethics that reflect SMU’s fundamental goals.”
This academic year, MUSE is exploring the spectrum along which civil liberties interact with national security and possible impending conflicts between them. We seek to examine angles of approach of the arguments and uncover the points along the spectrum where SMU students fall, so that SMU students will be better equipped to understand the different points of view as well as problems and solutions surrounding the issues of national security and civil liberties.
