New faculty Fall 2018

Starting Fall 2018, the Department of Economics is very excited to have Hao Dong and Mike Sposi starting as new Assistant Professors. Hao Dong joins after graduating in Summer 2018 with his Economics Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Mike Sposi joins after graduating in Summer 2012 with his Economics Ph.D. from the University of Iowa and working as a Research Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas since then.

Hao’s research focuses on econometric theory, in particular, the nonparametric and semiparametric methods, factor models, and their applications.

 

 

 

Mike’s research explores the role of international trade in explaining real exchange rates and relative prices, the links between international trade and the process of economic growth & development, the global effects of demographic change, the dynamics of external imbalances, and the structure of production through input-output linkages. His work has been published in peer-reviewed academic journals and Federal Reserve System publications. Prior to joining SMU, he was a Research Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas from 2012-2018 and actively provided economic analysis and policy briefings to the Bank’s president in preparation for FOMC meetings.
