This presentation will explore the life of Mohandas K. “Mahatma” Gandhi on his 150th birth centenary. Gandhi, a larger than life figure, has come to occupy a prominent place in the memories of Indians and people around the world. This presentation will focus particularly on spaces in India that serve as places of memory and commemoration, and the role that the memory of Gandhi plays in contemporary Indian society.
