Presidential History in Real Time: Insights into the White House from Inside Washington

March 7, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. Tickets are sold out
2. Venue has changed to
the Martha Proctor Mack Grand Ballroom (SMU campus, Umphrey Lee Center, 3300 Dyer Street, Dallas, 75205)

SMU’s Center for Presidential History is entering our second decade. Not surprisingly, we begin by looking back, and by looking at the way most Americans engage the White House and Washington in our 21st century: through the eyes, thoughts, and words of the journalists who follow the president every day. Join Peter Baker and Susan Glasser, Chief White House Correspondent for the New York Times and a Staff Writer at the New Yorker respectively, as they reveal and discuss the changes in presidential engagement with the media since CPH’s founding.

Peter Baker is the chief White House correspondent for The New York Times, responsible for reporting on President Biden, the fifth president he has covered. He previously wrote about Presidents Donald J. Trump and Barack Obama for The Times and Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush for The Washington Post.

Susan B. Glasser is a staff writer at The New Yorker, where she writes a weekly column on life in Washington. Her books include “Kremlin Rising,” “The Man Who Ran Washington,” and, most recently, “The Divider,” a best-selling history of Donald Trump in the White House, which she co-wrote with her husband, Peter Baker.
