Interview with Jacob Breedan, Entrepreneur

What is Process Art House?

Process Art House is family owned, artist operated, and artist centered. We are a consulting firm and gallery located in Downtown Amarillo. PAH specializes in solving a variety of problems for businesses of all sizes and people from all walks of life.

PAH’s mission is to find the best art for you, in the style of your choosing, and at the budget you determine. Whether you are looking to fill your hotel or hospital with hundreds of works or simply looking to find the perfect piece to go over your mantle at home; PAH has a program designed to fit your needs!

Why did you decide to start this kind of activity?

I started this as a way to support myself as an artist. It is very difficult to survive on selling work alone when you are early in your career. Running my studio as a business eventually led me to the idea of running a gallery as well to supplement my income.

Did you have a business plan when you started your business?

Yes. I had a very comprehensive business plan. I still use it and change it regularly.

Do you think business plans are necessary for entrepreneurship?

Yes. Business plans are incredibly important. I don’t think you can create a business without one.

What three pieces of advice can you offer developing creative/arts entrepreneurs?

My three pieces of advice would be:

  1. Prepare yourself for the time, money, and energy required to do this right. It’s far more difficult than you think.
  1. Don’t try to separate your creative self from your business self. They have to work hand in hand with each other and therefore must get along well. There is very little that separates an artist and entrepreneur.
  1. Ignore anyone who says it can’t be done. People are programmed to resist new thinking. Artists and entrepreneurs have always overcome this resistance with dedication and persistence. Show both of those and anything is impossible.
