The Asian Pacific Islander Alumni of SMU Board awards the SMU Asian Pacific Islander Scholarship each year to students who are excelling at SMU. The recipient/s of the scholarship must meet the following criteria:
Be at least a rising junior or higher, up to and including graduate students. Former Scholarship recipients are eligible to receive the Scholarship again.
Be an active member of one of the following SMU-sanctioned student organizations in good standing with SMU's Division of Student Affairs*:
Asian Council
Asian Pacific American Law Student Association
Asian-American & Pacific Islander Senator
Chinese Student Association
Chinese Student Union
East Asian Student Association
Epic Movement
International Student Fellowship
Korean Student Association
Liberty in North Korea at SMU
Middle Eastern Student Association
Saudi Arabian Students Association
South Asian Law Student Association
South Asian Student Association
Vietnamese Student Association
Additional SMU-sanctioned student organizations may be considered for approval by the Asian Pacific Islander Alumni of SMU Board
Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.000 or higher
Demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Office of Financial Aid
Submit a completed application, including a response to the essay question below.
Applications are due on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 by 11:59 p.m. CT.
The number of scholarships and amounts awarded will vary annually.
Scholarship recipient/s will be notified in March 2026.
