Application for the SMU Alumni Boards 2026

Thank you for your interest. The Alumni Boards of SMU are groups of key volunteers charged with inspiring alumni to go, give, help and connect with SMU and each other.

The application process contains three sections and should take you approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Note: You are not able to save your work and come back to it later, so please have all the necessary information gathered before you start.

Section 1 asks for identifying information and a personal statement.

Section 2 is optional and allows you to explain how you can lend your expertise to the Board’s objectives.

Section 3 asks for your resume (required for all candidates) and a letter of support (required for self-nominating candidates; optional for those nominated by someone else).

This application must be received by January 31, 2026 for consideration in the 2026 Board selection cycle.

Please also let us know if you serve or have served SMU as an alum (e.g. regional networks, reunions, other volunteer work, etc.). Responses are unlimited but typically range between 300 and 500 words.

Section 2 of 3 | Go-Give-Help-Connect

The Board focuses its efforts around four charges that drive the SMU community: Go-GIve-Help-Connect. Please feel free to provide information about your efforts in any of these charges, although all responses in this section are optional.

GO: We encourage Mustangs to be a part of the SMU community in Dallas and beyond. Tell us about any opportunities you have had to attend SMU events.

GIVE: No matter the dollar amount, alumni gifts help further the aims of the University. Feel free to share ideas you have to encourage others to give or ways you have participated.

HELP: SMU alumni are encouraged to help others, both on and off campus. Let us know of any ways you volunteer to help the SMU community or other communities.

CONNECT: We encourage Mustangs to connect with one another through our diverse network. Let us know of any ways you have helped connect the SMU community.

All applicants are asked to submit a current resume. If you are self-nominating, you are also required to submit a letter of support. If you were nominated by someone else, a letter of support is optional. Letters could come from an alum, a professional contact, a member of a community you support, or anyone else who may help us get to know you better. In recent years, approximately 30% of applicants have submitted a letter of support.
