Amrita Vir

As a President’s Scholarship recipient, Amrita Vir believes that “when someone directly feels the generosity of someone else, it pushes them to excel and give back in a similar way in the future.” Amrita is certainly excelling at SMU and taking full advantage of all the opportunities.

She is involved in multiple organizations including Mustang Microfinance. Through this group, doors have been opened for Amrita. In fact, her team was awarded the Big iDeas grant that allowed them to start a microfinance institute at SMU. It began as a simple idea met with a lot of apprehension; however, they are now in the process of proving that microfinance is a viable concept in the U.S.

It is through the generosity of alumni that we are able to have such avant-garde students at our university doing innovative things outside the classroom and making a difference in our community and possibly the country.
