David Woodard, Visiting Professor, Southern Methodist University

David Woodard has taught at Clemson University since 1983, and also at Vanderbilt University and Southern Methodist University as a visiting Professor.  He is the Co-author of The Conservative Tradition in America, and author of The New Southern Politics, (2006), with a second edition in 2013.  The America that Reagan Made (2006 and updated in 2010) and a biography of President Reagan (2012) are preludes to a current book entitled American Conservatism Since Reagan, which is under contract.  He co-authored a book with then U.S. Senator Jim DeMint entitled: Why We Whisper: Losing our Right to Say It’s Wrong.(2008).  His book, The Politics of Morality will be released in the summer of 2013 by St. Augustine Press.  He is also a political consultant, and was campaign manager, political consultant or pollster for Senator Lindsey Graham, Senator Jim DeMint, Congressman Gresham Barrett, Congressman Trey Gowdy and Congressman Jeff Duncan (a former student) and other candidates for political office.  At Clemson he won the Alumni Master Teacher Award and was the 1997-98 Fluor Daniel Excellence-in-Teaching Awardee.  He teaches political theory, political parties, politics and film, and courses in American government, as well as southern politics.
