LaiYee Leong is an Associate Research Fellow in the Tower Center. Dr. Leong received her B.A. in English and M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University. Her scholarship focuses on Islamic groups and ideological change; she is working on a comparative study of how religious groups in Indonesia and Turkey contribute to democratization in those countries. She recently contributed a chapter on Islam and the Indonesian state to a forthcoming volume titled “Sacred Matters, Stately Concerns: Essays on Faith and Politics in Asia.” Dr. Leong teaches undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education courses on Comparative Politics, the Politics of Southeast Asia, the Politics of the Middle East, and the Politics of Islam.
