Catching Up with More Second Year MA in Advertising Students about their Executive Internships with Dallas Agencies

Two more MA in Advertising students at the Temerlin Advertising Institute share their experiences at their executive internships with a Dallas advertising agency. Enjoy!

Sara Seaton – Firehouse Agency

Sara SeatonIn January, I started interning at Firehouse Agency. I joined the social media team, which technically falls under the planning division of the agency. The accounts I work on include Nothing Bundt Cakes, Blackmon Mooring, and Long Cove, a luxury lakeside development. Sometimes I’m pulled onto other accounts, like Service King and National Cheerleading Association, to help with other social media needs. Primarily, I help write and schedule branded social media content, monitor social platforms, and analyze campaign results. I’m currently working on a Pinterest project for Nothing Bundt Cakes, which requires me to flex my creative-problem solving muscle. I’m excited to see all of the spring social campaigns launch in the next couple of months. The results always uncover new insights into the overall social strategy behind a brand.

Arturo Lee – Buzzshift

Arturo LeeI am currently working at Buzzshift. I was hired on as a design/art director intern. Currently I have been working on the Verizon, Surface Armor, and AC Pro accounts. I have been immersed in work from day one and was already able to develop some of the creative that Verizon will use at SXSW. For example, I was able to make the invitations to the Verizon exclusive Big Boi concert. As the weeks move ahead, I am really looking to hone my skills and get even better at certain programs, while also growing as a presenter in order to secure more interaction with the client.

TAI Lecturer Dev Gupta to Speak at TEDxSMU

TEDxSMU Weekly Discussion Series
Poster designed by TAI Creative student Irisa Ona

The TEDxSMU Young Fellows are hosting a weekly talk series around TEDTalks. This week’s talk will be hosted by students from Meadows School of the Arts at SMU and will feature Temerlin Advertising Institute Lecturer Dev Gupta and Engineering Professor Kate Canales.

Dev Gupta teaches creative advertising art direction and copywriting, and will be talking about how design isn’t the same thing as art. According to Gupta, “Most people think because you can draw you can design a logo or website, when in fact art and design sit on opposite ends of the same spectrum.”

This week’s TEDxSMU weekly talk will be on Thursday, February 27th at 5pm in Greer Garson Room 3531. All members of SMU and Dallas communities are invited to participate! For more information on the event, please visit their Facebook page.

Catch Up with Second Year MA in Advertising Students about their Executive Internships with Dallas Agencies

In the final semester of the Temerlin Advertising Institute’s MA in Advertising program, students work in an executive internship with a Dallas advertising agency. Read their stories below and see what they’re up to!

ChrystallaChrystalla Georghiou –  TM Advertising

I joined the Media team this semester at TM Advertising. I assist with several projects for American Airlines, Japan Airlines, Dex Media and PG&E, just to name a few. I am a Texan by birth and have spent much of my life traveling the world with my parents. My travels have taken me to places such as Nicosia, Cyprus and Doha, and Qatar. In my spare time, I enjoy knitting, reading and crafting. I am thrilled to be at TM, where I am looking forward to learning more about planning campaigns that incorporate different media types that reach an advertiser’s core audience. I hope to expand my knowledge in the ever-so-evolving Media space. I am super excited to be undertaking my Executive Internship at TM this Spring!

HannaHanna Lewin – TM Advertising

I am interning this semester in the Account Management department at TM. I work closely with a number of corporations including Captain D’s, Community Coffee, PG&E, and Universal Orlando. I am looking forward to learning the ins and outs of everyday agency life and how to develop strong working relationships with both my team and clients.

JonJon Cronson – Agency Entourage

I am the newest graduate intern at the digital marketing agency, Agency Entourage, located in downtown Dallas, TX. I joined both the account and social media departments. I already feel like I am learning a lot and even making an impact for my team. One of the first projects I was given to tackle was to evaluate how AE acquires new accounts. I have also been hard at work optimizing the on-boarding process. I further took on reorganizing how clients’ information is kept and stored to fully utilize AE’s collective brain power. I am excited for what comes next.

LyndsayLyndsay Pleas – The Marketing Arm

I work at The Marketing Arm as an Account Service and Promotions intern on the Frito-Lay account, specifically as part of the “Do Us A Flavor” program which is in its second year. It’s the biggest program Lay’s has ever run and has become the most successful program at Frito-Lay based on consumer engagement.  I specifically coordinate the submissions effort of Do Us A Flavor, including: filtering, totaling, and sorting the millions of flavor submissions.  I work with the Lay’s brand team to help manage the backend database tool for the program.  I also assist the Lay’s brand team with flavor recommendations.  I am looking forward to learning more about the R&D process for Lay’s Potato Chips – specifically how new flavors of Lay’s are proposed, created, developed and put on shelves.  I am so grateful to have the opportunity to intern at The Marketing Arm and gain firsthand experience working in the world of advertising and marketing.

Coming Spring 2014: New TAI Creative Suite and Collaborative Space

Pardon the dust! The Temerlin Advertising Institute (TAI) is proud to announce that the renovation of a new creative suite and collaborative space for all advertising students is officially underway! The space, located in the Umphrey Lee Center on SMU’s main campus in Dallas, will feature both a classroom for our creative and graphic design courses, as well as collaborative/co-working area for all advertising students. It will be state-of-the-art, equipped with the latest technology to make it easy for students to “connect and collaborate”.

The space is designed to resemble a modern advertising agency, and will include areas for students to work independently, as well as areas for brainstorming and team collaborations.

Brice Campbell
Faculty Advisor, Brice Campbell

The Temerlin Advertising Institute is excited to announce the 2014-2015 Ad Club Officers! They will be shadowing the current officers spring 2014 and taking over next semester. Under the direction of TAI’s Executive-in-Residence Professor Brice Campbell, they have many great ideas and are sure to make an awesome team!

Ad Club is great for learning more about the advertising industry and networking as well as socializing. Ad Club also organizes agency tours so that students can get a better feel of local agencies and what they are all about. Agency visits typically occur on one Friday during each month. Every February locals in the advertising field come and discuss the Super Bowl ads.

Congratulations officers, TAI wishes you the best of luck!
