Research uncovered a wide range of approaches to providing mental health treatment on campus. In trying to understand how much is enough, each university needs to define what level of care it is willing and able to provide for its students. At a minimum, however, every university must have systems in place to evaluate troubled students who surface, stabilize crisis situations, and connect students with follow-up resources. These resources may be provided on campus but in many cases these services are located in the community, illustrating the need for off-campus referral networks and next generation case management systems.
