University Honors Program
A first-year student majoring in English and public relations, Sara is a Dedman Scholar and member of the University Honors Program. During spring 2014, she is enrolled in the Honors history class “The Founding Fathers and Slavery.” The class traveled to Virginia during spring break, with visits to Alexandria, Colonial Williamsburg, Washington, Charlottesville and the plantations of George Washington (Mount Vernon), Thomas Jefferson (Monticello), and James Madison (Montpelier). Rahfin is a junior President’s Scholar and member of the University Honors Program who is majoring in economics, political science and mathematics in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences. He was awarded a Maguire and Irby Family Foundation Public Service Internship for summer 2013 from the Cary M. Maguire Center for Ethics and Public Responsibility at SMU. He is working for the U.S. State Department at the Bureau of Central and South Asia in Washington, D.C. Continue reading
Janice is a sophomore President’s Scholar majoring in biological sciences in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences. Fantine is a sophomore President’s Scholar majoring in biological sciences and mathematics in Dedman College. Janice and Fantine are members of the University Honors Program who received a Richter Fellowship to conduct research during summer 2012 in Vietnam. Continue reading
Jewel is a sophomore majoring in biology and environmental science in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences. A member of the University Honors Program, she is the recipient of the SMU Founders Scholarship and Dedman College Scholarship. During summer 2012, she also received a Richter Fellowship to conduct research at SMU-in-Taos, where she will update “A Guide to the Trees of the Navajo Country,” a 1940 bulletin written to teach Navajo students to manage and identify the trees in their area. She is using a variety of resources to update locations, scientific names, Navajo medicinal uses and other characteristics of the trees. Continue reading
Dylan is a senior Hunt Leadership Scholar and David and Carolyn Miller Scholar. A member of the University Honors Program, he is majoring in English with a specialization in creative writing in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences. He was named a Richter Fellow for summer 2012, when he will be working on his first novel at SMU-in-Taos. Continue reading
