Monica is a junior Hunt Leadership Scholar majoring in communications in Meadows School of the Arts and business in Cox School of Business who spent the 2013 May Term in Taos.
Lade is a junior President's Scholar majoring in mechanical engineering in the Lyle School of Engineering and mathematics in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences, with a minor in art in Meadows School of the Arts. During summer 2013, she is participating in SMU-in-Bali.
Emily is a junior studying public relations and strategic communication in Meadows School of the Arts, with minors in Spanish and English in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences. During summer 2013, she is participating in SMU-in-Costa Rica with SMU Abroad, an intensive Spanish program at the National State University.
Twenty-one communication studies and journalism students are in Washington, D.C., in January 2013 as part of the Meadows School of the Arts’ Hilltop on the Hill program. In addition to reporting on Inaugural events, the students will visit media and government sites, and meet with political communicators, journalists and SMU alumni. The trip is led by Rita Kirk, professor of communication studies; Daniel Schill, assistant professor of communication studies, and Carolyn Barta, journalism professor. Endowed by the Bauer Foundation, the Hilltop on the Hill program also takes students studying political communication to political party conventions and the G8 Economic Summit.
In fall 2012, SMU students are attending the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, and the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, as part of a political communication studies program in Meadows School of the Arts. They are attending with Professor Rita Kirk, director of the Maguire Center for Ethics & Public Responsibility, and Dan Schill, assistant professor of communication studies, who are conducting "Dial Test" research for CNN.
Roza is a senior Hunt Scholar and Mustang Scholar majoring in communication studies in Meadows School of the Arts and political science in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences. In fall 2012, she is studying abroad with SMU-in-Copenhagen.
During summer 2012, communication studies students in the Meadows School of the Arts are at SMU-in-Taos, where they are studying nonprofit management and working as interns at nonprofit organizations in the city of Taos. Students will focus on issues involving the environment, the arts, public radio and TV, and nonprofit community outreach.
During the SMU-in-London: Arts summer program, students are taking courses that explore solo performance and the city "as" performance. The students will create and perform original works, all against the backdrop of the Queen's Jubilee and the Summer Olympics,
Daniel is a junior majoring in art history in Meadows School of the Arts and minoring in Latin, classical studies and photography. During summer 2012, he is participating in SMU-in-Italy: Arts and Culture.
Katelyn is a sophomore Hunt Scholar and Meadows Scholar who is majoring in journalism in Meadows School of the Arts and Spanish in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences, with a minor in political science. During summer 2012, she is participating in SMU-in-Costa Rica, where she’s hoping to improve her Spanish skills and immerse herself in the culture.
