An update from Kyra S.:
This trip has been incredibly eye opening.
Before coming here I knew almost nothing about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Now, not even a week after landing in Israel, I’ve heard from several different perspectives, and I’m forming a better understanding of the issues at hand. I’ve learned about how the Israeli government misuses green spaces to curb the development of Palestinian neighborhoods. I’ve learned about the history of the conflict, and why these issues are so difficult to solve today. I’ve learned about the beliefs that give this land so much religious significance and how they factor into modern politics. As the days go by, I’ve come to realize how complex this situation is and how difficult it is to pick a specific side.
It’s one thing to travel to a foreign country to visit historical sites – it’s a completely different experience to examine the politics and lives of the people living here today.
