Alternative Break, Winter 2011
As part of the SMU Alternative Break Program, students are traveling during winter break to communities to engage in service and experiential learning. Students are serving with Habitat for Humanity in Little Rock, Arkansas; and in New Orleans, they are doing recovery work.

It has been an eye-opening experience interacting with the homeless and seeing their everyday lives. It adds a human element to a usually abstact issue.
So far, we have served food to the homeless, organized the organization’s thrift store, and volunteered at a children’s Christmas party.
