Day One: Gdansk

After nearly 15 hours of travel, we arrived in Gdansk, Poland today! Gdansk is in northern Poland and located on a seaport. Though we had all been warned about the bitter cold weather, the reality of it all set in as soon as we exited the plane. Coming from Dallas, many of us have never before experienced wind chills of -2 degrees Fahrenheit.

We arrived at our hotel around 2 PM and spent the rest of the day exploring the city. We witnessed the hustle and bustle of last-minute Christmas shopping. For dinner we ate at an authentic Polish restaurant, which we all very much enjoyed after a long day of travel.

After dinner, we walked around the city a while longer, looking at all of the beautiful architecture and Christmas decorations. We went to the seaport, where the water was completely frozen. Along the waterway, some of the only remaining World War II ruins stand, completely preserved. We very much enjoyed our day in Gdansk and are all looking forward to some much needed sleep.

However, our journey really begin tomorrow as we head to Stutthof, a concentration camp located near Gdansk, which contained political prisoners. Afterward, we will be taking a 4-hour train ride to Warsaw.
