What’s Mustang Corral?

Linwood.jpg An update from Mustang Corral director Linwood, a junior majoring in political science and English:

MustangGroup.JPGWhere will 1,040 of your newest friends be August 21-23? At Mustang Corral, of course!

We are overjoyed that 1,040 new students have signed up for Mustang Corral so far, and it is only June! Since its inception in 1990, Mustang Corral has become an SMU tradition that just keeps growing. Last year, about 81 percent of new students attended, and this year we are expecting at least 90 percent.

Here is some more information about the event:

Who: New students (first-year and transfer), 50 faculty mentors, 100 student leaders, 4 faculty/staff directors and 5 student directors

When: Friday, August 21-Sunday, August 23, 2009

Where: Two large retreat centers in the Texas Hill Country. At these retreat centers, students will be staying in cabins (so bring twin sheets or a sleeping bag) that have air-conditioning. Some refer to Mustang Corral as “camping SMU style,” so don’t worry about staying in a tent without showers or plumbing. A few weeks ago, we picked the menu, and the food looks like it will be delicious!

22282D_033.jpg Why: It’s a great chance for the incoming students to build relationships with their fellow classmates and faculty/staff before classes start on Wednesday, August 26.

Why not take advantage of getting to know everyone away from campus before classes? Sign up for Mustang Corral and get your “Mustang Experience” at SMU off to an amazing start. We hope to see you in August!
