Hello, everyone! Just as I promised, I am posting a blog about my time spent at Our Friends’ Place and working directly with the girls.

First of all, I have to say that working with these girls has been nothing short of an amazing experience for me! I am proud to say that these girls have taught me just as much as I hoped to teach them. Strong-willed, bright, spirited, funny and courageous are all adjectives I would use to describe these adolescent girls.

The sense of unity between these girls is amazing, considering they are all in their teens. They are friends, roommates, and almost like family to each other. They encourage and praise each other just as real sisters or family members would do. I am so very impressed by what I see!

Our Friends’ Place is doing a great job teaching these young women responsibility, positive behavior, good decision-making skills and time-management skills. I am helping by teaching these young women how to take advantage of community and public transportation, resume and essay writing and compilation, positive thinking and attitudes, organization, smart decision-making skills, and interviewing skills, just to name a few.

As a group, we’ve taken many trips to places such as The Women’s Museum, local art galleries, The Holocaust Museum, Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor and The Dallas World Aquarium. Each trip allows the girls to have fun, while learning something along the way. Entertainment can be educational as well!

My time at Our Friends’ Place is almost up; however, I plan to continue volunteering and assisting for OFP as needed. In the next couple of weeks, I will have more information and exciting news to share and blog about! I’ll keep you updated as more happens!
