SMU Human Rights Awards First Santos Rodriquez Memorial Scholarship

Karly Zrake ’18, sophomore human rights and anthropology major, is SMU’s first recipient of the Santos Rodriguez Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is named in honor of Santos Rodriguez, a 12-year-old whose 1973 shooting death by a Dallas police officer remains one of the nation’s most troubling civil rights incidents. Pictured are Zrake and Santos’ mother, Bessie Rodriguez, who attended a Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) tribute to her son November 2 at a Seattle park named in his honor.
