Constance Y. White ’97

Constance Y. White has been named vice president/public art by the Arts & Science Council (ASC) of Charlotte, N.C. White joins ASC from the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, where she served as the art program manager. She begins her new role at ASC September 2.
CYWhiteThe Dallas native earned a B.F.A. in art history from SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts.

White began her career with the City of Dallas, where she served as an arts administrator for the Office of Cultural Affair’s Percent for Public Art program. She was there for nine years before joining the Airport Authority.

She has more than 17 years of experience in facilitating creative programs from inception to completion. During her eight years with the Airport Authority, she completed its comprehensive art master plan, which included expanding exhibition opportunities, rebranding efforts and overseeing 20 public art projects.

White will lead the Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s public art program that was established in 1981 and managed by the city of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. There are currently eight projects underway, including five neighborhood-based projects to bring public art to some areas for the first time.
 
“The thing that most impressed me about Constance was her view of public art not in isolation but as an avenue for citizen participation in community design and as an opportunity to continue to develop arts education in our community,” said Public Art Commission Chair Marc Gustafson. “I look forward to working with her to make our public art collection one of the best in the country.”
