Mark D. Thompson ’01
Mark D. Thompson has been named vice president, tourism by the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau. He earned a Master of Liberal Arts degree from SMU in 2001. Thompson brings more than 20 years of tourism and marketing experience to the job. In his new role with the Bureau, he is responsible for its tourism sales, cultural tourism, tourism special event and attractions development, international strategic plans and serves as the primary liaison for partnerships and marketing opportunities with the two major Dallas airports. Prior to joining the DCVB, Thompson served 10 years as the vice president of marketing for the Irving Convention & Visitors Bureau. Thompson is serving as the 2104-15 secretary-treasurer for the Americas Board of Directors of the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI). HSMAI named him one of the Top 25 Most Extraordinary Minds in Sales and Marketing in 2010; the same year, its Dallas-Fort Worth chapter named him the DFW Sales and Marketing Professional of the Year.
