Just want to thank everyone that helped make Mac Dayz 2010 possible. We had some wonderful sessions and guests.
Cali Lewis gave a great insight into what it takes to produce a daily podcast show. Her tips for those just starting out were priceless. I heard from a faculty member attending that it was nice to has someone reinforce the concepts that he had been stressing all semester. One student commented on his blog:
“The event was really informative and helpful, with a great host to pull it all together. I feel like the advice she gave really helped show how video podcast can be started and how to manage them effectively. I am looking forward to seeing if anyone in the crowd was inspired and what comes from this.”
After the “Developing iPhone Apps with Steve Hayman” session, I felt like I could easily produce a iPhone App. In fact, I attended the repeat session with my laptop in hand and successfully made the web app that accessed the Apple Trailers site, but failed miserably when building the SMU app after I missed a step. That’s Steve Hayman’s gift; He makes it look so easy.
Congrats to the winners at the Late Night @ Computer Corner. Dean Elazab was the lucky winner of the Apple iPad.
Thanks to everyone who came out for the event.
We’re having our next SMMUG meeting this Monday, April 5, from 4pm-5pm in Hughes-Trigg Portico CD. Come out to see Apple’s new iPad and finalize plans for Relay for Life. Hope to see you all there! Have a great weekend!
This Thursday, April 1st, is Apple’s Birthday!!!
Please join SMMUG at the SMU Computer Corner for cake from 11am to 1pm to celebrate.
With all the rumors of an Apple branded tablet device, some textbook publishers have produced a demo video of how they would like to use the device. The video is created by Coursesmart, a joint venture of five textbook publishers and the makers of the “eTextbooks for the iPhone” App [iTunes link], and demonstrates how students might use tablet-based textbooks. Of course, as no one has seen the Apple Tablet, everything is based on Coursesmart’s renderings and not any specific applications being developed with Apple.
Hey everyone! Just a reminder that our next meeting is THIS WEDNESDAY, December 2, at 4 pm. We’re going to be on the 3rd floor of Hughes-Trigg in Porticos BCD again.
Come ready to discuss ideas for Mac Day, hear the latest news surrounding Apple, and enjoy free pizza and drinks. See ya there!

The deadline for the SMMUG Logo & T-Shirt Design Contest has been extend to October 31, 2009! Keep those great designs coming!
We are looking for a new logo for our Mac User Group. We want to see it on our website, on our t-shirts, and on our banner. We need your help. Make your logo your own, which means not including the Apple logo or Apple trademarked images.
Pretty straight forward.
The logo can be on any doc size, and can be submitted as an EPS, AI, JPEG, PDF, or PSD.
The t-shirt design must be as an EPS or Adobe Illustrator (AI) file. You can draw the front and back of a t-shirt to get the idea of how it will look.
The banner should be in the dimensions of 4×12 and able to scale up to 2ft by 6ft. Can be submitted as an EPS, AI, JPEG, PDF, or PSD.
We have a iTunes Gift Card for each category: Logo, T-Shirt, Banner. Yes, you can win in multiple categories.
