kyle-padron-passes.ashx.jpgOn the heels of its second consecutive bowl berth and Conference USA Western Division Co-Championship, SMU announces its 2011 football schedule.

SMU opens the season at former Southwest Conference rival Texas A&M on Sept. 3 before opening the home slate with a big C-USA Western Division match-up with UTEP on Sept. 10. The SMU alum Bradley Dale Peveto-coached Northwestern State Demons then come to Dallas for a meeting with SMU on Sept. 17, when SMU will celebrate Family Weekend.

The Mustangs then enter a tough stretch with four of five games on the road, playing at Memphis (Sept. 24), at TCU (Oct. 1), at Southern Miss (Oct. 22) and at Tulsa (Oct. 29), with only an Oct. 15th home rematch of the 2010 Conference USA Championship Game against UCF breaking up the road run.

The November slate features three of four games at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. SMU plays host to Tulane (Nov. 5) on Homecoming, as well as Navy (Nov. 12) and Rice (Nov. 26). SMU’s final road contest comes on Nov. 19 when the Mustangs play at Houston, with the two squads having shared the C-USA Western Division Championship in back-to-back seasons.

The C-USA Championship game will be played Dec. 3. SMU opens Spring Practice on Monday, April 4.
