Twenty-one Journalism and Corporate Communications & Public Affairs (CCPA) students in Meadows School of the Arts spent five days in Washington, D.C., during October for the Hilltop on the Hill 2010 program.
Accompanied by Professors Rita Kirk, Carolyn Barta and Dan Schill, the students visited media and governmental sites and were briefed by policy analysts, political communicators and journalists.
They also toured the National Mall, Holocaust Museum and Newseum, and met with SMU alumni.
The students blogged about their experiences on the SMU Adventures site. “This experience with Hilltop on the Hill has given me a new perspective on politics and how communication affects it,” wrote Derek Hubbard, a junior CCPA major. “I do not know whether I will end up on the Hill, but I do know that my involvement with politics is just beginning.”
