The Office of Operational Excellence aims to strengthen the economic vitality of SMU and its academic mission through operational improvements and savings by identifying the right balance of resources for the University.


The Office of Operational Excellence advances the financial sustainability of the University through two objectives: 1) Helping ensure resources support the academic mission; 2) Fostering a University culture of continuous improvement towards best-in-class administrative efficiency and effectiveness.


The Office of Operational Excellence is committed to being thoughtful, transparent, collaborative and data-driven.

Julie Wiksten, ’78, ’92, Associate Vice President for Operational Excellence

Julie Wiksten is associate vice president for operational excellence in the recently established office of Operational Excellence. Ensuring that the work to improve SMU’s organizational efficiency remains on track, Wiksten manages continuous improvement opportunities and oversees the ongoing implementation of OE2C initiatives. She has most recently served as associate vice president for campus services, among other positions at the University. She serves as the co-chair of the Faculty/Staff Campaign Steering Committee. Julie earned two degrees from SMU and joined the University staff in 1978.

The OE2C Office draws from expertise across campus, and is led by Julie Wiksten with support from a faculty liaison.
