Today has been quite eventful so far. I woke up at around 8 AM, after a wonderfully long sleep, and went for a run along the river. It is about a block from our hotel, and it was wonderful just to take in the city and atmosphere. Afterwards, I came back to the hotel, where I ate the best continental breakfast ever! Soft-boiled eggs, fresh cheese, ham, croissants, fruit, hot tea, and juice completed the meal. It was free, too, which made the whole thing even better.
At about noon, we set off to explore the city. We noticed on arrival a huge beautiful cathedral that sat on a giant hill overlooking the city. We decided to hike to the top. Let me tell you, it was the kind of calorie-burning that I wish I had back home! We walked for about an hour up the hill, and the view from the top was absolutely spectacular. Then we explored the inside of the cathedral, which was breathtaking, as well. Afterwards, we wandered over to a giant outdoor theater that was built in approximately 15 BC. It was unbelievable to walk the steps and be able to hear someone clear as day at the very bottom on the stage.
After our exploring, we stopped at a small kebab shop for lunch. Who knew that 6 Euro could get one of the best gyro-type sandwiches I have ever had? And do not worry, friends. They have plenty of Diet Coke here.
More soon!
