Studying for MOS Certification? Don’t Update Office!

If you are currently working towards a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification and studying on your personal computer, make sure that Microsoft Office does not update automatically just yet!

Office 365, the Office subscription service provided to you by SMU, normally updates automatically on your computer. Since Office 2019 is now being introduced, some students have reported that after updates were applied their MOS practice exams in GMetrix no longer work! This is because the exam focuses on Office 2016 and is not compatible with newer versions.

Microsoft Office Certification Pilot Program Extended for Additional Year

Microsoft Office Specialist LogoIf you haven’t taken advantage of SMU’s Microsoft Office Pilot Program, it may be time to take a closer look! Last year, OIT announced a one-year pilot program to gauge interest in Certiport’s Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certifications.  During the pilot, Microsoft Office Specialist exam certifications in Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word have been offered for free to current SMU students, faculty, and staff. This industry-standard certification validates technical skills and speaks volumes to prospective employers. SMU students have quickly recognized this value as many who took this as a requirement for a course are returning to the labs to complete additional certifications.
