2023: Championing Excellence Through Certification

Certiport MOS Top 10 awardIn 2019, the Office of Information Technology added the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification as an official service offering. Over the years, we have continued expanding and growing participation in these industry-leading assessments. In 2023, we have several milestones to celebrate. Not only did SMU students, staff, and faculty successfully complete over 5,000 Microsoft certifications since launching the pilot program, but we also added several new faculty to the roster requiring certification for their courses. SMU’s MOS Certification Program Reaches 5,000 Certifications

Amanda MarusterThis Spring, OIT celebrates another significant milestone with our Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification program. We are pleased to announce the 5,000 certification holder—Amanda Maruster.  Amanda is a sophomore majoring in Accounting with a minor in Statistics and Psychology. She completed both her Excel Associate and Excel Expert Certification alongside 310 students assigned one or more exams for ITOM 2308. Office 2019 Certification Exams Available

Microsoft Office Specialist LogoCertiport recently released the new Microsoft Office 2019 exams, and we are excited to announce they are now available options for certification on campus, except for Outlook and Access Expert. Outlook and Access Expert exams will be released later this spring and will complete the Office 2019 exam offerings. As of January 13, 2020, we will no longer be offering the Microsoft Office 2016 Specialist (MOS) Certification tests. Continue reading Office 2019 Certification Exams Available

Studying for MOS Certification? Don’t Update Office!

If you are currently working towards a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification and studying on your personal computer, make sure that Microsoft Office does not update automatically just yet!

Office 365, the Office subscription service provided to you by SMU, normally updates automatically on your computer. Since Office 2019 is now being introduced, some students have reported that after updates were applied their MOS practice exams in GMetrix no longer work! This is because the exam focuses on Office 2016 and is not compatible with newer versions.
