CrashPlan Pro backup solution becomes standard for Windows 7

CrashPlan Pro, CrashplanSMU’s enterprise desktop backup solution, has been available for faculty/staff computers for several years on an opt-in basis.  Employees who wished to enable the backup system were required to install the software from the LANDesk software portal and sign in to trigger the backup process. The Opt-in process will be moving to an automated solution.

In order to adhere to SMU policy 12.3 and ensure employee files are protected and recoverable in the event of a hardware failure, CrashPlan Pro will now be deployed automatically to faculty and staff computers beginning with Windows 7 devices.  The silent deployment of the Crashplan software for Windows 7 will begin on March 29, 2018.  Users using Windows 10 or macOS on their university-owned computers may install the CrashPlan Pro application at any time by using LANDesk.  The automated deployment for these operating systems will be implemented in the next few months.
