IT Help Desk Streamlines Windows Software Installs on Macs

In January, the IT Help Desk assumed the management of Boot Camp & SAS installs for students. During that time the IT Help Desk worked with over 100 students to successfully complete the needed installations.

“I’m excited that we were able to take what previously was a four-hour process and streamline a student’s wait time down to around 20 minutes,” stated Lauren Nelson, Manager of the IT Help Desk. Lauren explained that the previous install process often left students without their computers for hours and in some cases even days.

The IT Help Desk uses VirtualBox which supports the creation of virtual machines to run Windows alongside macOS. A student can bring their Mac to the IT Help Desk to get VirtualBox installed along with the appropriate software such as SAS or Excel. Students who are interested in pursuing a Microsoft Office Specialist Certification now may also use VirtualBox on their Macs to obtain Office 2016 and the GMetrix practice test software.

Students can visit the Student Software Installation page to schedule an appointment. Walk-ups are also accommodated as available.
