OIT Resources for Your Sitecore Needs

SitecoreSMU’s main website holds around 45,000 web pages, and each one of those pages runs on our Content Management System known as Sitecore. If you have editing privileges on any of SMU’s web pages, you may already know the basics of how Sitecore works, but you also realize how complex and intimidating the system can sometimes be.

If you ever have any problems with Sitecore or are just curious about learning more about what it can do, we have plenty of resources to assist you.

Web Captain

For each school or major campus department that has a Sitecore web site, there is a corresponding “web captain” assigned to each area. The web captain is the first point of contact for web design consultation and troubleshooting in your department. They can also act as a liaison between your department, OIT, and the Public Affairs office to make sure your web pages meet technical and design standards. A list of current web captains in available in the Sitecore Knowledge Base.

Sitecore Knowledge Base

If you would like to read detailed documentation about specific Sitecore features, stop by the Sitecore Knowledge Base on Wiki.SMU. From the most basic features all the way to advanced elements, the wiki will walk you through each part of using Sitecore. The knowledge base is also an excellent reference for custom add-ons for specific departmental web pages.

Sitecore Clinics

Sitecore ClinicBy popular demand, Sitecore Clinics are back! These walk-in sessions are perfect for getting problems with your web pages solved quickly while also learning about the system from the folks who run it. Everyone is welcome regardless of experience level, so stop in and ask away!

Help Desk

Of course, the IT Help Desk is always a point of contact for issues regarding Sitecore. Not only are our Help Desk consultants trained to troubleshoot basic problems in Sitecore, but they also have the ability to provide security permissions to pages. Feel free to give them a call at 214-SMU-HELP (768-4357) for assistance. Permissions requests can also be submitted to help@smu.edu
