IT Training Announces New Courses for Spring 2017

IT TrainingOIT will be offering over dozen instructor-led workshops and webinars this semester. New IT Training courses include Adobe Acrobat Essentials, Mastering Digital Notetaking with OneNote, and Using Powerpoint & Sway. Another new addition is the Sitecore Office Hours. Sitecore users can come by and get one-on-one assistance with their questions regarding the web content editor.

All workshops will be held in Fondren Library East, Room 109 unless otherwise indicated.


Adobe Acrobat Essentials

Adobe Acrobat is installed on almost every computer on campus, and you probably use it to view PDF files every day. Have you ever wanted to know more about what Acrobat can do? In this one-hour hands-on course, you’ll learn more about creating PDF files, editing and formatting files, publication methods, and the basics of creating your own online forms. We will also cover why PDFs are a useful file format and different use cases for them.

Mastering Digital Notetaking with OneNote

Bring your notes into the digital realm using Microsoft OneNote! Included within Microsoft Office, OneNote enables you to make your notes more organized, effective, and searchable. This training session helps you with getting started in OneNote by creating notebooks, formatting information, searching for content, and of course taking notes. You’ll also learn about OneNote’s cloud capabilities using OneDrive and mobile apps so you will always have your notes handy.

Intro to Excel

Are you new to Excel, or do you use it rarely? This foundational course will introduce you to the basics of Excel. We’ll explore the ins-and-outs of workbook management including data entry and shortcut tips. You’ll also get up to speed with the 5 basic Excel Functions (sum, average, count, max, and min) and learn how to create simple bar and pie charts.

This basic hands-on training course for the is tailored for those on campus who may not be designing pages from the ground up, but who need to update, add, or remove information from web pages. Learn how to enter information, upload and insert images, links to other pages, and how to navigate the Sitecore interface. No prior experience in Sitecore is required.

Sitecore for Designers

Are you ready to take your web pages beyond the basics? Sitecore, SMU’s Web Content Management System, does much of the work in creating your pages, but sometimes it needs a little wrangling to get it to shine. This session is for more advanced users of Sitecore. We will cover how to spice up those pages by editing the CSS and HTML. We will also look at using widgets to present content in different and interesting ways.
