SMU Employees Now Able to Opt Out of Campus Mailings

One of the most popular topics on Operational Excellence comments form is the desire to reduce the volume of printed materials in campus mailboxes. In response to those requests, the Office of Information Technology, Human Resources and SMU Mail Direct have worked together to devise a new opt-out solution for these campus mailings. Starting today, SMU faculty and staff can choose to stop receiving promotional brochures, flyers, invitations, and other printed mail from campus departments.

To Opt Out of Campus Mailings

  1. Log into my.smu.edu
  2. Navigate to “Main Menu > Self Service > Personal Information > Opt Out of Campus Hard Mailing.” You can also find a link to the page listed under the current “Announcements” section of the my.SMU dashboard.
  3. Authenticate with the Duo Two-Factor Authentication, if needed.
  4. On the Opt Out Of Campus Hard Mailing page, click the checkbox next to “Opt Out of Campus Hard Mailings.”
  5. Click the “Save” button.

  6. Once your settings are saved, you receive only campus mail that is mandatory.

Of course, Faculty and staff will continue to receive any printed mail that is considered mandatory for all SMU employees. Such mailings would include notices from Human Resources about benefits, policy updates from Risk Management, etc. Please note: SMU cannot control the mail received from off-campus.
