Exercise your right to vote – early or on November 6!

Election Day is coming up on Tuesday, November 6, but you can vote early through Friday, November 2. We enourage staff and faculty to vote early, if possible, since the lines are likely to be much shorter than on Election Day.

Managers, please make sure that your employees have time to vote on Election Day. If employees plan to vote during work hours, they should provide you with notice in advance. Polls are open until 7:00 PM, so as long as employees leave work by 5:00 PM (2 hours before polls close), they should not need to take time off during the work day. They may also vote before working hours, but note that since most employees start work at 8:30, this does not provide them with the 2-hour voting window required by Texas law. If employees choose to vote before work begins, and if it causes them to be late for work, you may ask them to make up the time at the end of the day (or later during the week).

Please note that employees may not be disciplined or otherwise retaliated against for taking time off to vote; nor can employees who did not vote be disciplined for their failure to do so.
