Benefit Coverage for Employees in the SMU Health Plan
As an added benefit to SMU employees covered by the Health and Wellness medical plan administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX), SMU will cover all routine annual mammogram charges for women age 40 and above. The cost of the mammogram will not be billed to your $500 preventive care benefit. Please have your insurance information available when you call. BCBSTX will process the claim and SMU will pay it at 100%. Coverage under SMU’s medical plan is not limited to the mobile unit. Should you prefer to receive your screening from another medical provider, the cost will still be covered at 100% and will not be billed to your preventive care benefit.

Benefit Coverage for Employees NOT Covered Under the SMU Health Plan
You do not have to be a participant in the SMU Health and Wellness Plan to schedule your mammogram with the mobile unit. When you call to schedule your appointment, you should inform the scheduler of this and inquire about other billing arrangements.

IMPORTANT Parking Information
The Expressway Tower parking lot is in the process of being repaved and striped. On April 7, the entrance to the parking lot from SMU Boulevard will likely be blocked. Please enter Expressway Tower’s lot via the service/access road for 75 Central Expressway heading north from Mockingbird. Turn into the entrance for Expressway Tower and drive past the building to the SMU lot east of the building. The mobile unit will most likely be parked on the far east end of the lot. We’re hopeful that by April 20, much of the lot will be completed; however, please plan to arrive early in case work is still in progress. Mustang Express runs right by Expressway Tower and is a great option for those of you coming from main campus.

Wellpower Credits
Don’t forget you may enter 1 Body credit for this screening. You may also enter 1 Body credit each for a full physical exam, dental exam, eye-exam, gynecological checkup and for getting your flu shot!

Guidelines for Mammogram Screenings

  • The mobile unit is designed for routine screening only. If you have any known breast problems, please consult your physician.
  • Screening is recommended for women age 40 and older. Check the BCBSTX Preventive Care Guidelines for more information.
  • Most insurance plans, including Medicare, cover the cost of screening once a year.

We value you and your health…if it has been a year or more since your last mammogram screening, please call to schedule your appointment!
