This is a crucial time if you are high school seniors. You are hearing back from schools and are trying to narrow down which one you like the best. While some schools seem similar, some are polar opposites. At the end of the day, it comes down to what do you want? What are you hoping to get out of your college experience?

To help you, I am including a list of questions that I asked myself while I was in the college-picking process:

1) I’m a city girl. Is it near a big city?
2) Is the campus attractive?
3) I am a Florida girl. Is the weather mostly warm?
4) Is there fun stuff to do on the weekends?
5) Is the school well known around the country?
6) Are the professors approachable?
7) Are jobs accessible?
8) Does the school remain in a bubble?
9) I’m from the south. Are passer-bys friendly?
10) Is there strong school spirit?

Here are the answers I found to these questions regarding SMU:

1) I’m a city girl. Is it near a big city? YES!!
2) Is the campus attractive? MOST DEFINITELY.
3) I am a Florida girl. Is the weather mostly warm? IT IS VERY SIMILAR TO FLORIDA.
4) Is there fun stuff to do on the weekends? SO MUCH STUFF TO DO!
5) Is the school well known around the country? FOR SURE.
6) Are the professors approachable? SOME OF THE MOST APPROACHABLE IN ACADEMIA.
7) Are jobs accessible? VERY. PROFESSIONALS COME TO SMU AND SEEK US OUT!
8) Does the school remain in a bubble? SOMEWHAT IN THE NICE NEIGHBORHOOD, BUT IT IS VERY SAFE, SO THAT IS PROBABLY A GOOD THING.
9) I’m from the south. Are passer-bys friendly? YES!
10) Is there strong school spirit? FOOTBALL SEASON IS PACKED.

Clearly, SMU was a good fit for me. Although it might not be for you, we certainly hope it is. Really take time to think through questions like these. It is an important decision and we hope that you make it for the right reasons!

Have a great week. Until next time,

Lauren Cook
