Campus Habitat

Greg Nelson

There are so many great things going on at SMU this semester. The weather is finally changing to the warm and sunny conditions that we expected, and everyone is excited to have the week of midterms done and over with. But there is more than just great weather and classes happening on the Hilltop. The SMU community, this month, has rallied around the SMU Habitat for Humanity chapter to help build houses at our annual SMU Blitz Build. Students and faculty have shown up in large numbers for the past two weekends to help build the main structure of two houses in south Dallas. It is awesome to see so many people come out and participate in service opportunities. Some of the students and faculty have enjoyed it so much that they have asked to come back this weekend, which is great! The dedication of the homes will take place on Saturday March 5th right outside the new homes, as HPUMC and SMU Habitat for Humanity, hand over the keys of the house to the new homeowners.

The Habitat chapter has been on campus and recognized as an organization for 3 years now. It has really picked up credibility all over campus and the Park Cities area. Yesterday, February 21, the chapter was highlighted in the SMU Daily Campus, a student and campus run newspaper. Here is a link to the article as well as the Daily Campus site so you can see what else is going on at SMU!
